NCAA Football 2009 screenshot

When I think college sports, I think of the wonderful times that I had living in Columbia, South Carolina. I happened to live fairly close to Williams-Bryce Stadium where the Gamecocks played, and every gameday Saturday was an absolute mess. It would take me over an hour to get to my apartment, find a spot, and navigate through the gluttonous pile that seemed to pour out of the stadium. Luckily, NCAA Football isn’t about what I experienced as a citizen, it’s about the game.

With NCAA Football 2009, I am able to take out that pent up aggression from those Saturdays and repeatedly sour the Gamecock season. While I love destroying the hopes and dreams of virtual college athletes, a key question remains. Is the newest incarnation of the NCAA Football series any good?

Click the “continue reading” thingy right below this and I’ll tell you how the game stacks up.

horror, cheaper games, Eden, and Nine Inch Nails screenshot

This week the PlayStation Store is all about some discounted titles, a few new awesome downloadable games, some wallpaper, and even a demo for a tiny game called PixelJunk Eden. As a part of Sony’s “Summer ’08 Game Sale,” PAIN, PixelJunk Monsters, High Velocity Bowling, High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition, and Rocketmen: Axis of Evil will be listed at $4.99 instead of the usual $9.99. In addition to those titles, the episodic and very visceral Siren: Blood Curse and classic shooter 1942: Joint Strike have finally come to the store. I highly advocate buying Siren or at least downloading the demo. It’s pretty cool, even if you don’t concur with the whole episodic gaming thing.

As we also previously mentioned, Rock Band got some downloadable content, as well as Guitar Hero. The massive winner from the two is obviously Rock Band, because Nine Inch Nails pre-With Teeth is the greatest band ever. I like to playfully forget that Trent quit drugs and liquor and went all emo on me. Seriously, though, check out “Burn.” Your face will melt off from its beauty.

As for videos, themes, and wallpaper, I couldn’t advise you more than to at least look at the video for PixelJunk Eden if you don’t want to waste your time with the demo. It’s a pretty thing. Also, there’s a Bionic Commando Rearmed documentary out there if you’re curious as to what the team is doing to make the game great again.

Hit the break for the full press release and tell me what you’re going to download this week.

[Thanks, Christopher]

Even though their plans have changed a bit, team Bungie is steadfast at making their Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) presence known with the unveiling of new Halo 3 multiplayer content. In a current update posted on Bungie.net, Sketch mentions that PAX attendees can “expect to find some brand new Halo 3 multiplayer conent [sic]” although the content or anything else at PAX for that matter is “not going to be the ‘big announcement’ many of our fans are clamoring for.” A new multiplayer map perhaps? We think that would be a good bet.

So, between the Bungie meeting, swag winning, autograph signing and Recon earning that’ll be going down at PAX this year, we’ll also get a chance to preview some new Halo 3 content. But sadly, the E3 delayed BIG announcement won’t be unveiled at PAX and the Bungie planned FanFest will not take place either. Somewhat exciting, somewhat sad.

It’s a big week for the PSN update, with a nice sale going on, Parappa the Rapper available as a downloadable PS1 Classic and the addition of a PSN original, Siren: Blood Curse. Let’s begin with the PS3’s first survival horror game, Siren: Blood Curse, which has one of the most unique cost models we’ve ever seen. The television show game comes in 12 episodes that players can download in four-episode packs at $15, or just buy in its entirety for $40. We’ve yet to actually play the game, so we can’t make a suggestion, but there’s also a demo available, which is certainly worth trying first. The full game fills up a whopping 9 gigglebytes on the PS3’s hard drive.

Choose PSN games are available for $5 this week only, including: PixelJunk Monsters, PAIN and Rocketmen. Don’t forget to download the PixelJunk Eden demo! There’s plenty of other stuff too, check it all out after the break.

The European PSN update can be found over at PS3 Fanboy. Tragically, our European writer has been watching the Huge Brother home non-stop, so he can’t give us a report on Siren either.

Grand Theft Auto IV to PC confirmed screenshot

According to the front Malaysia’s “premier gaming mag” PC Gamer, Grand Theft Auto IV is coming to the PC. As we aren’t in Malaysia, when the misadventures of Niko Bellic and company will be invading your rig is unknown. Above is my artist rendition of the magazine cover that we caught a glimpse of at Overclock.

SInce we’ve no clue as to what’s exactly coming with the package, it’s time for gross speculation. My guess is that it will just be a direct port of the Xbox 360 version, with the same stipulations that Rockstar has with Microsoft in tow. That means, probably, no downloadable content until the exclusive agreement ends with Microsoft. Regardless of content, I wonder if Rockstar will open up some development tools this time around? Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has quite the community still surrounding it.

Are there any Personal computer players smacking their lips right now? I’ve never had the pleasure of playing GTA on a PC for any extended period of time, so I don’t know if this version of GTA IV would be preferable to the crowd with machines that can actually run a new game. With this announcement behind us, maybe the next one will be about a Macintosh version that consists of web-based content and pre-1990s graphics that I have the ability to play. We’ll keep you posted when another foreign magazine puts that information up.
