There were rumors floating around and now we can finally confirm the news. Splinter Cell: Conviction is delayed once again. Gasp!
In their just released first quarter fiscal report, Ubisoft made mention that Splinter Cell: Conviction is still alive (phew!) and that it has been delayed once again (aww, shucks) possibly into 2010 (wah?). According to Ubi, they’ve pushed back its release to “bolster the line-up for fiscal 2009-10″, meaning that the earliest we’ll see Sam Fisher and hear his new voice will be April 2009. We’ve made the executive decision to place Conviction alongside Alan Wake in the 360’s exclusive vaporware catalog.

Electronic Arts has announced a partnership with DC Comics to produce a six part comic series based on the upcoming run-em-up Mirror’s Edge. The comic will take place before the events of the game and chronicle the back-story of its main character, Faith, promising that “Frame by frame, page by page, [readers will] learn more about the events that shaped both her and the city.” The comic will be penned by Rhianna Pratchet — who is also the writer of the game itself — and drawn by artist Matthew Dow Smith. The first issue will be available at the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Details on when the comic will be more widely available are still up in the air.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, Mythic’s upcoming MMORPG that more than a few community members are looking forward to, is now expected to be coming out on September 23. This speculation was caused when EA, the game’s publisher, updated the product information of the Collector’s Edition to include this date.
It is possible that this could be another placeholder date, so, as always, we’ll need to wait for an official announcement before we have the ability to be 100 percent sure that Warhammer’s release date is only two months away.
Is this an MMO that you’ve been particularly looking forward to? Have the current content cuts made you a bit wary of how it will turn out at launch?

A while back, we showed you a timer on developer Cryptic’s official page that was a bit suspicious in origin. The natural conjecture that this timer would count down to an official announcement of Star Trek Online now appears to be true. WarCry recently found two different announcements of the game, which go quite a way to validate the revival of the once ill-fated game.
The first piece of evidence comes from the Star Trek Convention site. The announcement is painfully blunt, but if you look at the schedule for August 10 at 1:30 P.M. there’s an event planned called “Star Trek Online Revealed.” Apparently, when it comes to videogames, these guys really don’t like to beat around the bush.
Another interesting tidbit comes from the Game Career Guide, where Cryptic Studios plastered an advertisement on page 42 that states they’re hiring for positions. Notably, they claim to be “developer and publisher of…Champions On the web and Star Trek On the internet.” I think Cryptic might have killed the need for speculation on their timer already, unless it’s for a Stargate MMO or something.

At Comic-Con this week, co-founder of Maxis and The Sims creator Will Wright revealed a bit about Spore’s depth during a big demo of the game. According to Eurogamer, Wright claimed that players would never see the entirety of the game, regardless of how long they play. Considering the nature of the title, Wright might be correct in that regard.

On top of the linked achievement news coming from Comic-Con, a new Gears of War 2 edition was unofficially announced by the panel members. A new Halo 3 Legendary edition priced $130 Gears of War 2 bundle that is said to include a miniature replica model of a Lancer. Something we should have expected seeing that we caught word from our own source that a mini Lancer would grace some sort of Gears of War 2 edition. Microsoft has yet to confirm this $130 Gears 2 edition, what other content will be included or when it’ll be available, but we anticipate news to trickle in soon. And just in case you were wondering, the answer is an emphatic “yes”. A certain blogger will be plopping down his $130 come November.
