Ubisoft dishes out Far Cry 2 PC specs screenshot

Far Cry 2’s showing at this year’s E3 throroughly impressed me, but sadly, I knew that my Personal computer wouldn’t be able to run the game at its full graphical capacity.

With Ubisoft’s announcement of the Computer specs for Far Cry 2 this day, it looks like my assumption was correct. Here are the minimum requirements, followed by the max:

CPU: Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz, Pentium D 2.66 Ghz, AMD Athlon 64 3500+ or better
Video card: NVIDIA 6800 or ATI X1650 or better, Shader Model 3 required, 256 Mb of graphic memory
Memory: 1 GB
Media reader: DVD-ROM

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Family, AMD 64 X2 5200+, AMD Phenom or better
Video card: NVIDIA 8600 GTS or superior, ATI X1900 or superior, 512 Mb of memory
Memory: 2 GB
Sound: 5.1 sound card recommended

So, will anyone else be sticking with the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version of Far Cry 2 when it finally comes out?

Lionel Messi to be featured on cover of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 screenshot

Okay, I’m going back to calling it “soccer,” since both EA and Konami are doing so. Anyway, on the virtual soccer pitch, the two main combatants are EA’s FIFA Soccer series and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer games. FIFA 09 was announced over a month ago, and now Konami has responded by bringing out the first screenshots of this year’s iteration in their vaunted soccer series, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009.

The cover will feature Argentine footballer Lionel Messi, of FC Barcelona. Messi, who co-FIFA Player of the Century Diego Maradona has called his “successor,” is the youngest player ever to compete in the Spanish Professional Football League. He led Bar

Enhanced Edition 'enhanced' screenshot

CD Projekt’s action RPG The Witcher was the subject of pretty solid acclaim when it released last year. Based on the fantasy book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher put players into the shoes of amnesiac monster hunter Geralt, and presented plenty of long-running consequences depending on various choices made hours earlier in the game. Everything wasn’t all sunshine and roses, though, as the game suffered from various technical problems such as long loading times.

These problems, although somewhat addressed in patches, are promised to be completely fixed in the upcoming The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. Aside from the technical repairs, visual improvements, over 5000 lines of re-written and re-recorded dialogue, more than 200 new dialogue animations, an enhanced inventory, and improved combat responsiveness are also among the promised improvements we have the ability to expect to see in the Enhanced Edition.

Several more bonuses will also be packed in with the Enhanced Edition. There will be two brand new adventures, an adventure editor, a multilingual disk for people that want to listen to the spoken dialogue in different languages, the Official Soundtrack CD, a Music Inspired by The Witcher CD, an official game guide, The Witcher short story by Andrzej Sapkowski, a Making-of DVD with behind-the-scenes video footage, and a map of The Witcher’s world.

That sounds like one hell of a bargain for $50, and I don’t about you, but I’m definitely going to be picking up the Enhanced Edition when it comes out this September.

Asus launches the Eee stick, a Wii look-a-like for the PC screenshot

While I applaud Nintendo for coming up with a dynamic new way to control the games you play, I’ve to make a guilty admission — I really don’t care for holding two separate controllers. Sometimes it works out ok, but overall I just prefer to have one old fashioned controller in my hands than wave around two separate ones. It could also be because I’m lazy and can’t be bothered swing my arms all over the room while I play a game, but that’s another topic entirely.

For those of you who enjoy the freedom of playing one game with two controllers, Asus have introduced the Eee, which is a Wii-like controller that you can use with your PC. More specifics from Register Hardware:

The Eee Stick is made up of a seven button “Activation stick” and a “Navigation stick,” which has a thumb-operated joystick mounted on top. Both communicate with the Computer through a 2.4GHz RF USB dongle, which has a 10m broadcast range.

Vibration feedback’s enabled on both sticks and they’ve three distinct modes of operation: 3D motion, pointing and titling. In 3D motion the controllers respond to and reproduce movement along all axes, in addition to wrist rotations, which should be good for beat ‘em up games. Pointing is designed for shooting games and tilting mode’s for racing or flying titles.

I might be jaded when it comes to the way of controllers, but I’ve to admit this does sound care about it could make for some good times on the Personal computer. Release date and price are unconfirmed at this time. Would you like these to using a keyboard and mouse?
