Gamecock Media Group has blown up our mail boxes, alerting us that the official Web site for Replay Studios’ upcoming “stealthy game with a broad as the protagonist,” Velvet Assassin, has gone live.
The site explores the world and history of Velvet Assassin’s heroine, Violette Summer, as she lay in a hospital bed dying. Spoiler alert? Not quite — the game itself is framed in flashbacks as Summer’s life supposedly slips away. The site also features screenshots, trailers, weapon descriptions, as well as details on the “Follow the Dream” gold hunt.
Gamecock have also sent a few new Velvet Assassin screens in our direction, as well as some nice and subtle box art for both the Xbox 360 and PC. We still haven’t had a chance to get our hands on the game, but having seen demos, it’s definitely showing some promise. I guess it helps that we like killing people in the dark. Oh crap … did we admit that in a public forum?

Shown behindclosed doors at E3 2008, BioWare’s upcoming role-playing title Dragon Age: Origins is coming out of the closet for some upcoming public gaming conventions.
The first will be this Gen Con Indy, which our own Brad Nicholson terrorizing reporting from later this week. The Penny Arcade Expo will also have the BioWare team showing off the game’s combat, gameplay, and story features; a stage demo is planned as well, and will reveal a “major feature” of Dragon Age: Orgins. Our guess is that it involves — wait for it — dragons. We hope.
Europeans look to be getting the shaft this year: BioWare will be showing the game to the press only behind closed doors. Hey, there’s still time to grab a ticket to the States, right?

Bionic Commando fever has taken hold! With today’s release of Bionic Commando Rearmed on Xbox LIVE Arcade, claw arms and exploding heads is all we can think about. But for those looking for the next-gen fix, the wait might be a little longer than expected.
According to retailer GameStop, the GRIN-developed next-gen version of Bionic Commando won’t be shipping until January 12, 2009. When we contacted the game’s producer Ben Judd for clarification, he told us the game was on track for release between December 2008 and March 2009.

Electronic Arts has announced today that Crysis Warhead, the not-sequel to last year’s PC first-person shooter Crysis, will be hitting North American shelves on September 16.
By pre-ordering the game from the EA Store, gamers can save $5 off of the regular retail price, or $10 when purchasing both Warhead and the original Crysis. If you don’t care about $5 or $10, send it to me so I have the ability to purchase candy. I like candy.

I mentioned early last month that the next Team Fortress 2 update would be based around the Heavy and his trusty minigun Sasha, and it seems that Valve has finally finished it up. It also looks like they’ve been hard at work since letting the news slip, as they’re promising that this will be “the largest update ever produced for Team Fortress 2.”
So what can we look forward to in the biggest update ever? Well, there will of course be the requisite three new unlockable weapons and thirty five achievements for the Heavy. There’ll also be a new game mode with five new maps, and a new Payload map that promises to contain more open spaces — all the superior for the Heavy to gun you down from a distance — than Goldrush.
Along with all those free goodies, Valve will also be including a community-made map called cp_steel. This new map is a control point map with a twist: different routes will open and close for each team depending on who controls what point, offering a variety of different route choices for the offensive team.
The update is scheduled to go live August 19 (next Tuesday) and will be celebrated with another Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend on Steam. Are you looking forward to the new update? What TF2 class would you like to see updated next?
