People have been expecting to hear more about Alan Wake for a long time, but it’s been so long now that many are likely anticipating to hear only that it’s been canned. For those of us still interested in this “psychological action thriller,” it should be noted that the game isn’t dead yet, with developer Remedy stating that Alan Wake is still very much in the works.

…we’re still here and working hard on getting Alan Wake for you to enjoy. Sure, we’ve been in development for a long time and if everything had gone perfectly smoothly there probably would be a game out for you guys to play already. But designing a absolutely new game can be hard, and sometimes you need to take a detour to find the best route forward.

I wonder if “a detour” advocates that the next time we see Alan Wake, it’ll be a very different beast from what we saw last. Was the Max Payne developer being a bit too ambitious when it first started making the game? In my experience, that’s usually what happens when a title spends time in limbo followed by a developer making subtle hints about development changes.
