There is riding, and maybe some Hell screenshot

What do you mean you’ve never heard of Ride to Hell? It’s that game … you know … that one game … with the thing … and the thing on the thing with that thing.

Okay, so I’ve not heard of Ride to Hell and nor has anybody else at Destructoid. Was there some clandestine meeting held beyond our reaches where they decided to design a game with lots of motorbikes and low quality graphics? It would seem so, but if you own a PS3, Xbox 360 or Computer then congratulations! Ride to Hell is coming your way, pardner!

I don’t understand this game and thus I don’t want to deal with it.

Codemasters and NetDevil’s upcoming MMO Jumpgate Evolution is a game that should very much be on your radar if, like me, you’re a fan of twitch-based space combat. It looks enjoy it could provide many an enjoyable session of pew pew pewing, as you blow up players from around the globe.

This latest trailer released during the Leipzig Games Convention shows that everything won’t be all laughs and lollipops in the far reaches of deep space, however, as an evil group of mysterious aliens that pilot red painted ships that shoot red lasers (this is how you can tell that they’re evil) are coming to wipe out all of humanity. This group of red loving aliens is called the Conflux, the villains from the previous game in the series, Jumpgate: The Reconstruction Initiative. Apparently they still have a bone to pick.

There are also some new screens and artwork to look at in the gallery as you begin to mentally prepare yourself to combat this red-faced menace when Jumpgate Evolution launches in 2009.

New Diablo III concept art and screens revealed, glorious color and all screenshot

While the sector of the Internet displeased with the new “colorful” look of Diablo III is busy squabbling and pouting that no one paid heed to their petition, those of you who have no problem with the way the title is shaping up might enjoy the gallery, which contains new concept art and a fistful of new screens.

I’m not touching the color argument with a ten-foot pole, but I have to say I was only a shade less excited seeing these new screens and art than I was the day the game was announced. It looks like it’s going to be a rich new experience, and yet still retain that feel that makes Diablo beloved to so many gamers. I can state without a doubt this is my most anticipated game of 2009.

Oh, and also — I’ve no info about the header picture above, but let me tell you, I hope she makes it into the final game, because that is one badass-looking b*tch. Take that, generic female sterotype!

Yerli thinks Crytek couldn't exist if it was a new company screenshot

Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek and master of all things piracy and Xbox 720 told gamesindustry.biz that Crytek “wouldn’t exist” as a new company if they had to begin today.

Absolutely, nowadays I don’t think Crytek could have set up. It wouldn’t exist. The situation has changed drastically - the competition is more serious, companies have consolidated, costs have increased, the platforms are getting more difficult to enter. For example, to make a next-gen PC title entering the market now we’d need about EUR 10-12 million, even for a newcomer, to make an FPS as good as Far Cry was back then. To get the trust and commitment from a publisher for a newbie studio…I think it’s quite impossible.

Regardless of the issues that he brings up, I’ve always respected Yerli’s view on the industry. In this regard, I have to absolutely concur. Mega publishers like EA, Ubisoft, Take-Two and Activision have the capacity to throttle the development pipelines with their big bankrolls and schedules. It would be hard for a developer without one of these publishers to roll out a decent game because the polishing money just simply isn’t there.

Do you guys think that Yerli has a point? Can a studio like Crytek start and be successful in today’s climate? If you think so, why?
