Last chance to sign up for the Good Old Games early access beta screenshot

What, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten about CD Projekt’s upcoming DRM-free classic Personal computer game platform, Good Old Games. Long story short, the service is looking very promising, and if you sign up before September 7 at midnight, you’ll gain access to the beta.

Beta invites will be sent all throughout next week and will allow you to buy games (about 30 titles will be available initially), join the GOG community, and write reviews, if you so desire.

Ideal of all, if you do end up purchasing a DRM-free title, CD Projekt is throwing in a code that’s good for one free Interplay game of your choosing. Count me in!

When Hothead Games announced that Monkey Island designer Ron Gilbert had joined their team as Creative Director, we were already sold on their new game, DeathSpank. Our own Chad Concelmo questioned whether the game — described as “Monkey Island meets Diablo” — could be “the greatest thing in the history of things.”

Hothead were at Penny Arcade Expo last week, obviously pimping Penny Arcade Adventures, but also to tease the “coming soonerish” DeathSpank. As these new trailers indicate, the meshing of Monkey Island and Diablo could very well be the ideal thing ever. Humor and violence — does it ever get old, really?

Soul Calibur IV (4) was released a few months back, it was a long awaited release considering that the previous one swept the nation on the Ps2. So you could imagine that I was more than a little excited when I got my hands on a copy. The graphics on the cover and the Cd itself were astoundingly incredible which was leading up to the suspense. So I started my 360 and popped it in awaiting something great.

The intro screen itself got my hyped up about the game. It was about a soldier standing alone on the top of a tower victoriously after fighting and some kind of power had been released. Then there were the rest of the fighters fighting one another as well and guess what. YODA was there. Woot. Well yeah the introduction was great and I advocate that you check it for yourself to see how great it truly is.

Okay enough about the introduction, now let’s move onto the game. The game starts you off with 20,000 G which you can use to improve your player or to purchase/unlock other players. Don’t go spending it all at once now, spend it wisely. You can also earn more money through the story mode as well. Talking about the story it gives you the chance to go through the story mode as different characters each with a different perspective which makes it interesting. I of course selected yoda and I was so into the game that I finished the story mode rather quickly. If I was to rate the gameplay I would say that it took a massive step when it comes to graphics over the soul calibur 3 and it might be one of the best 3d fighting games that exist today. Putting together all the factors I would say that it is a great game for just about everyone and I would give it a rating of 8/10.

Now I’m off to go continue playing, and if you’re thinking if it’s worth the buy, trust me it is. I’ve played a lot of games in my life and this is one of the ideal. Now finally to answer the question that I posed; Does soul calibur really meet up to the expectations? Of course it does, it’s amazing.

That’s the trailer for Global Conflicts: Latin America, a game that puts you in the role of an investigative journalist who seeks to unmask corruption and exploitation. Using a point-and-click, adventure game interface, players go through a series of interviews and use what’s gathered from them to produce an article. It’s an educational title intended for teenagers that aims to expose them to issues that people in some countries of Central America are facing.

Already registered via Xbox Live to vote in November’s general election? Here’s a different vote to rock: EA is letting players have a state in which two existing Battlefield: Bad Company multiplayer maps will be tweaked to become Conquest battlegrounds when the free Conquest Map Pack deploys this fall.

The six maps are up for vote at EA’s Bad Company site, and include Acta Non Verba, Crossing Over, Par for the Course, Ghost Town, Welcome to Bad Company, and Crash and Grab. Developer DICE will pick the two top vote-getters on September 2. The golf course themed Par for the Course is currently way out in front, but, hey, you might change that. DICE is working on two more Conquest maps to join the fan favorites.

By the way, we’ve checked, and your vote really will count. You know, unlike a certain Spider-Man: Web of Shadows poll Activision conducted last month.
