In addition to the satisfaction of dragging that last bite of delicious popsicle off of its stick and the pride that fills your body after spelling your name with the trail of a sparkler, the summer months also bring about one other inevitable feeling: the emptiness of not having many videogames to play.
For some odd reason, publishers like to release all their major games at the beginning and end of the year, leaving the middle, extra sunny months a veritable gaming release ghost town: one filled with movie-licensed tumbleweed and …

Do you dream of large plastic tennis-rackets and steering-wheel snap-ons for Sony’s upcoming motion controller? Yeah, then why not build them yourself? Sony Computer Entertainment has launched its Official Licensing Program that gives accessory and peripheral makers in Japan, Asia, North America, and Europe access to all the PS3, PSP, and PS2 tech documents and schematics required to qualify your product for an “Official Licensed Product” logo. Sure, you’ll likely have to hand over some cash for the privilege, but envision the bank that awaits the person who converts the …

The PlayStation 3 may will be chugging away in third place, but that hasn’t stopped industry analyst Michael Pachter from declaring that Sony’s black box o’ Blu-ray will overtake Microsoft’s beige box o’ breaking-all-the-time.
“We think that the PS3 will capture significant

Last week, I was fortunate enough to be invited over to Blizzard headquarters down in Irvine to get the first hands-on look at the eagerly anticipated StarCraft II. While the original plan was for us to get some hands-on time with the Terran campaign in the single-player mode, we were informed a few days before the event that the focus had shifted, and that we would be seeing multiplayer instead. Either way, I was happy; it’s StarCraft II!
Hit the jump and see what StarCraft II multiplayer is like, the cool …

Yesterday morning, PlayStation 3 owners discovered access to Hulu was no longer functioning through the console’s Internet browser. According to Engadget, PS3 users of the video content provider were treated with an apologetic error message, citing the desired content wasn’t available on their “platform” of choice. Engadget is swift to point out that, while Hulu’s current Terms of Service changes make no mention of the console, changing an Internet browser’s user-string to match the console reveals it is specifically being targeted. Conspiracy theories? Throw them in the comments below while …

We don’t know exactly what’s going on, but both Xbox Live and Zune Marketplace are apparently acting up right now — we’ve gotten reports that the entire Zune user database is more or less MIA, while Xbox Live seems unable to process purchases reliably. If we had to guess, we’d state that Microsoft’s free Thriller video giveaway is causing some pretty huge server strain, but that’s just a shot in the dark. Keep us posted on how you’re doing, and we’ll let you know if we hear anything official.

I watch all my television on my personal by hooking it up to my TV through an HDMI cable. At this point there just isn’t any point to watching Television “live” since everyone can get everything over the web whenever they want, and for most of the shows watching it in Hi-Def is beyond unnecessary. Many others might use their PS3s to watch Television. They might have also used Hulu to do this, but no more.
Yesterday many PS3 owners might have seen this little message when trying to watch …

Nikkei, one of the largest media conglomerates in Japan, is reporting that Sony has been working on a combination cellphone/game system for nearly a year. It’s a rumor we’ve been hearing for years, so what’s different this time?
Well, not much, really. Nikkei is a very solid source, definitely not prone to tossing plausible ideas around as actual reports. And of course, it’s been such a persistent rumor because it makes so much sense: Sony is an important player in both the cellphone (with Sony Ericsson) and gaming worlds, though Sony …

Is it just me, or did Battlefield Heroes‘ release yesterday come seemingly out of nowhere? A few months ago, I couldn’t turn around without seeing an interview or a news story about the open beta. Then, nothing. Then, with nearly no fanfare or immediate pre-release hype, it spontaneously becomes available for free download.
In case you haven’t been following it, Heroes is a fully featured cross between classic Battlefield 1942 gameplay (complete with control points, planes, and Nazis) and the free-to-play, microtransaction-based structure of
