It’s no secret that Valve isn’t a big fan of the PS3. When the company revealed Left 4 Dead 2 as an Xbox 360/PC exclusive, no one acted surprised. However, PS3 might be getting its own version of the multiplayer FPS if the official EA website is to be believed. Not only is PS3 listed in the “Coming Soon” section of the site, but a swift glance of EA’s games page reveals placeholder box art for the game as well. This could be a sign that EA is working …

If you’re down with dingy floors, cadavers, the occult and Nazi surgeons then Raven Software has just the digital place for you in Wolfenstein! Below the fold is your first look at the newly debuted Nazi hospital, uh, level … thing. It’s a teaser, so be prepared for some quick cuts and weird The Saboteur monochrome. We’re guessing the effects are there to make the place seem scarier or something but there’s really no need: wheelchairs, blood and phantom screams already do the trick.
If you’re not down with Wolfenstein, take …

Hey, check it out: a post about Left 4 Dead that doesn’t involve the words “boycott,” “DLC,” or “unfinished.”
Valve, the much-beleaguered masterminds behind Left 4 Dead, released their Authoring Tools about a month ago, effectively inviting modders, tinkerers, and craftsmen of all kinds to build maps and campaigns of their own. I’m sure there are hundreds of excellent mods out there already, but a modder named Outatime is creating an especially interesting bit of zombie confluence — Resident Evil’s Racoon City.

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick says he sees the number of games bought per console slowing if the price on the PlayStation 3 doesn’t go down, and that his company (the largest independent game developer in the world, thanks in part to that sweet, sweet Blizzard cash) might think about dropping the PS3 and PSP in 2010 or 2011 if things don’t improve. He states Activision paid $500 million in royalties to Sony last year, but the Xbox 360 and Wii are cheaper to develop for and offer a better return …

This refreshingly mechanical hand-made robot automaton can be hand-cranked to shut its fists, drop its chest plate and unleash a hellfire of rubber bands onto its victims.
As exciting as all this devastation may sound, the video clip is ultimately more entertaining than frightening, as a man cranks cranks cranks cranks cranks and the automaton moves forward a little bit. Then the man cranks cranks cranks some more and the automaton very slowly reveals its arsenal of wooden Gatling guns.
Sadly, flash compression has spoiled any hope of appreciating the slow-mo …

Raven Software’s Wolfenstein is the next entry in a storied franchise. Over the last seventeen years you’ve killed countless Nazi and occult creeps, stolen plenty of documents and stockpiled treasure, explored numerous bunkers and fortresses, and even battled a mechanical Hitler. You’ve done a lot.
With this in mind, I asked id Software’s community manager Peter Sokol what Raven Software’s Wolfenstein would do differently. His answer was simple: the supernatura plays “more of a key role” in Raven’s upcoming title with the addition of The Veil — a mechanic we …

Activision already has great expectations for Modern Warfare 2, but outselling all previous Call of Duty titles is just the beginning. The publisher has hired marketing firm TWBA/Chiat/Day and given it marching orders to deliver the “biggest entertainment launch of all time.”
In order to accomplish this, MW2 will need to surpass some established launch sales triumphs. The first is Halo 3, with 1.7 million copies moved on day one in fall 2007. More recently, Grand Theft Auto IV took the title of “biggest launch” thanks to first day sales of …

Radical Entertainment’s Prototype has been a long time coming. The promise of shape-shifting slaughter in an open world was met with an equal mix of excitement and trepidation from gamers, but the game is finally out and judgement can be cast. A game with an anti-hero like Alex Mercer could go either way — it could be a delightfully violent romp full of ceaseless fun, or it could be a frustrating, unpolished mess of wasted potential.
Naturally, it’s both. Read on as Jim Sterling, Conrad Zimmerman and Brad Nicholson review …

When the Jasper motherboards started showing up in Xbox 360 consoles late last year there was reason for excitement — quieter fans, more efficient design, and 256MB of internal storage to set gamers free of overpriced memory cards. Now the systems are receiving an unannounced storage boost, with an XboxHacker forum member braza noticing that his Japanese Arcade model sported a 4GB 4Gb Samsung NAND chip. That’s twice the size of the old one, giving the equivalent of a 512MB internal memory unit. That first system was manufactured in April, …

Open world superhero games have so much potential that it’s actually surprising we haven’t had as many as we have so far. We’ve seen licensed games such as Spiderman, MMOs in City of Heroes and, of course, Crackdown. You can also add inFAMOUS to the list, with Sucker Punch’s PS3 exclusive putting you in the shoes of Cole, a man with the power to control electrcity and the duty to protect Empire City from the scumbags and criminals who run the place.
Superhero games should make you feel like a …
