For its last Olympics game, set in Vancouver, Sega employed the development talents of the UK-based Eurocom. The 2012 Olympics will be held in London, and Sega has consequently moved development of the tie-in game to Brisbane, Australia. Obviously!
Today, Sega announced London 2012 – The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games, coming out next year for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC (Mario and Sonic are the chosen Olympians for the Wii and 3DS platforms). It’s developed by “the newly rebranded SEGA Studios Australia,” formerly The Creative Assembly‘s Australian studio. …

The Dead Island forums revealed the game’s box art today, with a normal version for most of the countries that traded slaves in the colonial era and a censored version for the region they were headed to. Makes sense, no?
I never saw a problem with the logo, as the game’s fictional island has tourists of all colors as well as an indigenous population. A more valid complaint would be that it makes no sense to hang a zombie from a tree by its neck. Anyway, potbelly zombie Platoon!
Dead Island Boxart …

Computex 2011 starts tomorrow, apparently. Not that you’d know it with the monsoon of news that ASUS poured upon Taipei today: the all-new capabilities of the Padfone, the extreme thinness of the UX21 Core i7 laptop, and the breakthrough $200 price tag on the Eee PC X101 MeeGo netbook. ViewSonic also pitched in a 7-inch Honeycomb tablet and a 10-inch Oak Trail slate that runs Windows 7 but can virtualize Android for the needy. But that’s just two companies and the show floor hasn’t even opened yet! Basically, this year’s …

PC games don’t often get special editions like their console counterparts, so it’s interesting to not only see Duke Nukem Forever get one, but get one that is uniquely designed to the platform. Duke Nukem Forever: Fully Loaded comes with a limited edition GTX 560 graphics card, you see.
Here’s the full package:

Limited edition EVGA GeForce GTX 560 graphics card.
Art book.
Mousepad.
Belt buckle.
Duke Nukem Forever.

It’s unique, I’ll give ‘em that. Especially when you consider the fact that you really, really won’t need a new graphics card to play this game. At least …

You’re probably getting excited about E3 (and who can blame you?) but it’s a bit more difficult for us who’ve come to view the yearly event as “The One Week We Actually Have to Work Pretty Hard.” But whether you’re a jaded misanthrope like our staffers or a rational human who hasn’t had their heart replaced with a heart-sized stone, there’s a new can’t-miss event at the conference: The 200th Video Games Live show, set for 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8 at the Nokia Theater.
The slate of guests and material …

Twitter just gave into pressure from British councillors to release the private information of users who made some allegedly libelous tweets. This is a landmark case in the already-messy realm of online free speech and privacy. More »

Earlier this week, Venture Beat landed itself in hot water with the gamer community after publishing the controversial article, “How Many Ways Can Space Marine Rip Off Gears of War?” The article accused Relic of copying Epic’s shooter series, and the writer was utterly mauled by readers.
He was mauled because, as every school boy knows, the Warhammer 40,000 aesthetic, setting, and characters predate Gears of War by a couple of decades. If anything, Epic owes a tip of the hat to Games Workshop, not the other way around. This situation is …

We know we’re opening a can of worms that can never be resealed here, but it’s true: we’re desperate to know how you’d change HTC’s Thunderbolt if given the chance. Verizon’s LTE wunderchild has had all sorts of issues from the beginning, some of which are still ongoing. Tough battery life, random reboots, you name it. That said, it’s still an imposing, beautiful device, and if those quirks ever get ironed out, it’s easily one of the best 4G phones on the market. You know the deal — toss your …

Two brothers, Tim and Vernon Shaw, are holding an Amnesia charity marathon this weekend and will be streaming it on Ustream. What sets this apart from the typical gaming marathon fundraiser? They will play it while people will try to scare them in real life!
Vernon will play on Saturday while his brother Tim and a couple of volunteers will try to scare him in real life, creating life-long trauma and possible stream hilarity. The next day, the tables are turned and Vernon will get to act out his revenge while …
