We don’t take kindly to publishers making us into liars here at Joystiq, so you can imagine how we feel about Dead Island dev Techland announcing a delay in the release of its upcoming Bloodbath Arena DLC after originally pinning a “late September” window on it. Spittin’ mad, you might say. As it turns out, rather than Bloodbath Arena … erm … flowing to the game by the end of this month (that’s today) as originally planned, it’s been moved to an undetermined date.
Techland tries weaseling out of responsibility for …

Since we couldn’t possibly (want to) cover all the stuff that goes down there, we’ve gathered up all the raw info you may want (but probably don’t need). Enjoy!

Valve boss Gabe Newell has provided his thoughts on Electronic Arts’ competing Origin service, and he managed to remain quite complimentary and civil about it, saying that it does some things well, and other things not so well. How sporting.
“I think it does some things well,” he said. “I think there are still some areas where, as a customer, I’d like to see it improve. It’s not that different from any other system like this. There are positive things and negative things.”
He also talked about the competitive aspect of Origin, …

Nokia always said there’d be “substantial reductions in employment” but it’s still brutal to see it happen. The manufacturer just revealed it intends to close its massive manufacturing plant in Cluj, Romania (pictured above) in order to shift high-volume feature phone production to Asian factories. The Cluj plant currently employs 2,200 people. Further “consolidation” of Nokia’s Location and Commerce business will result in the closure of sites at Malvern in the US and Bonn in Germany, impacting around 1,300 employees. Finally, the company also says it’ll review its production operations …

I’ve noticed that over the last few years I’ve become progressively more stupid. While this may be the result of reading more comics than newspapers, it might also be due to National Geographic not educating me enough through my favorite medium, videogames. So thank god for National Geographic Challenge! It’s going to attempt to educate us about mankind’s greatest achievements by making us fight. But not with swords, no. With knowledge.
Four players can compete to control territory by answering questions correctly and by using dastardly tactics to defeat their less …

Super Crate Box developer Vlambeer is releasing Serious Sam: The Random Encounter, its turn-based mutation of Croteam’s FPS franchise, in mid-October.
Publisher Devolver Digital has been oddly hesitant to name platforms for anything in the Serious Sam Indie Series — of which this is the last known game to be released — so we’re in the unusual position of being weeks from release and only now learning that it’s a PC game. And as such, it’ll be available on Steam, Get Games, and unspecified other digital distribution services, for $4.99.
