If you like making purchases without any sense of when your products will arrive, allow us to brighten your day. The Microsoft Store just started taking pre-orders for the Samsung Series 7 Slate — you remember, the Windows 7 machine sporting Intel’s 1.6GHz Core i5 2467M CPU with integrated graphics and 4GB of RAM, all beneath a 11.6-inch capacitive panel? Sure, you remember. MS is selling it for $1,299 with a 128GB SSD. And the mystery of wondering when it’ll actually ship? That they’ll throw in for free.
[Thanks, pradeep]

Marvelous AQL announced some smartphone games yesterday, and Keiji Inafune’s King of Pirates for 3DS — and, though it didn’t announce any specifics, it’s got some games in store for PlayStation vita as well.
During its announcement event, the company showed a slide that said it’s working on a “new fantasy RPG,” a “new fantasy action RPG,” and a “new action adventure.” Technically, the Vita Little King’s Story involves Marvelous, as it’s a Marvelous IP, but it’s not clear whether that’s one of the three games in question.
Marvelous AQL has three …

In AMY, the player character is infected by a mutating zombie virus that slowly takes over her body. Only by remaining near a mysterious child called Amy can she fight back the contamination. This new trailer for the promising downloadable game explores that dynamic.
Although the main drive of the game is to not turn into a mindlessly violent monster, the video notes how remaining infected can have its benefits. There seems to be a balancing act in place, where you can keep your infection to avoid tough situations, but do …

There’s still no real indication of when you’ll be able to send text messages, photos and videos to 911, but the FCC has now set a date for another promised enhancement to the service. The agency is aiming to increase the service’s location accuracy requirements, and to that end it wants all cellphones and VoIP devices to be GPS-capable by 2018 (A-GPS, specifically). As the FCC notes, it expects 85 percent of all cellphones to have built-in GPS by that point anyway, which it says should “contribute to minimizing subsequent …

Do you like Patrick Stewart? Did you not like the most recent War of the Worlds film? Now that I’ve got your attention, you should definitely check out these new pieces of concept art and screenshots from Other Ocean’s XBLA/PSN bound War of the Worlds.
The screenshots are pretty cool, but the two pieces of concept art really caught my eye. So much so that I’ve decided to use the one where the main character is on top of a destroyed tank while two barely visible Tripods cause carnage in the …

Epic Games’ Unreal Engine is everywhere, even in your browser. Crazy.
Epic’s Tim Sweeney showed off UE3 running fully inside an Adobe Flash-based environment during a keynote at Adobe MAX 2011, an annual conference for developers and designers. The live demo was actually FPS Unreal Tournament 3, running with enhanced graphics in the newly released Adobe Flash Player 11.
This means that Flash is now capable of running games made for consoles and other platforms, and they’ll actually look like console-quality games. Need proof? Check out the screenshots in our gallery, taken straight …

DC Universe Online‘s official Facebook account has teased the fifth update for the popular console and PC MMO, hinting at new features and new characters to play with. The “Fate of the Fortress” update will include a new difficulty mode for the Hive Alert zone (with new loot to match), a duel feature for fighting friends, the ability to fight in the Batcave as yourself (rather than as the premade Iconic characters), and appearances from both Jor-El, Superman’s dad, and the evil General Zod. We’re not sure how that last …
