Maingear gave us a quick nudge to say something was coming. Now it can reveal that — alongside Intel’s third-generation processors inside all of its desktops and laptops — it’s further updated two of its tower models. The F131 ($1,049), the middleweight option, now houses the same vertical heat-dissipating design found on Maingear’s Shift model, alongside hot-swappable storage. It’s followed by the Potenza ($899), the company’s “mini-ITX gaming solution.” It’s 45 percent smaller than the F131 with the same heat dissipation design, but still capable of squeezing in …

As part of the upcoming Inferno expansion for EVE Online, Amarr ships are getting a little bit of love. The old shader models and textures are being redone to make them more visually appealing.
Developer CCP wants to eventually enhance all of the graphics in the game. Considering that EVE is almost nine years old, it’s awesome that CCP is still updating it so much.

If you live in the Lone Star State like myself and Joystiq’s managing editor JC Fletcher, you have no doubt spent many years enjoying one of our state’s most prosperous traits: All Amazon purchases made in Texas are sales-tax free. Well, at least until the first of July.
Amazon and state comptroller Susan Combs have reached an agreement wherein Amazon will create 2,500 jobs, contribute $200 million in capital investment and begin collecting sales tax on all purchases made by Texans effective July 1, according to the Austin-American Statesman. So, …

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has assigned Sony a patent for “electronic devices having multiple keypads and related methods,” which when translated out of Patentese and into The Queen’s English, means “cell-phones with two sliding keyboards and stuff.”
The patent application is chock full of ballistically confusing descriptions like “a second slidable unit having a second keypad thereon, the second slidable unit being slidably connected to the upper unit and the first slidable unit,” but the basic idea of the patent is fairly straight forward: Rather than having …

Earlier in the week news broke that “trusted OXM sources” had seen TimeSplitters 4 in action, rekindling rumors regarding the existence of the long-awaited fourth installment of the time-traveling first-person shooter franchise. Unfortunately, while that may or may not have been true at one point in time, a Crytek company spokesperson has put the kibosh on any hope of seeing that sequel for the immediate future.
For Timesplitters 4, with ever spiralling development costs, massive teams and endless crunch we decided on a more radical development strategy.
In short, the experiment was to implement the …

Want to get from New York to Perth in under 4 hours, or maybe just head to outer space on a lark? Reaction Engines’ “Skylon” mach 5 spaceplane might be your chariot — or not. Its scheme of ingesting oxygen from the atmosphere instead of stowing it like a 50-year old modern multi-stage rocket sounds good, but the project’s fate may hang on critical new tests. Failure is still a possibility, but if the high-speed, superhot gases can be cooled enough for the hybrid Sabre engines to work, …

This is one of those games that I can promise isn’t what you think it is. Confrontation looks like a Diablo style hack-n-slash title, or maybe it’s a little bit like Dungeon Siege. Nope, get those ideas out of your head. Stop thinking “role-playing game,” and start thinking “strategy game.”
Now, you might be conjuring up images of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, but it’s not like that. The best way I can describe Confrontation is that it’s like Dragon Age: Origins with most of the RPG taken out. The …
