[Destructoid's Director of Communications Hamza Aziz asked Jonathan Holmes to make a show called 'Sup, Holmes?' so that Destructoid could later sell a t-shirt that says 'Sup, Holmes?' on it. This is that show. Subscribe to the podcast feed and find more episodes here.]
There are few games that do more things at once than Spelunky. It is equal parts derivative, original, lighthearted, soul crushing, easy to learn, and hard to master. The contradictions continue with the game’s length. Some may spend years trying to beat the game, while others can get through it in …

The Nook’s $20 price drop is more than the whim of a few major retailers — it’s Barnes & Noble’s new MSRP. Following Walmart and Target’s recent discounts, the company’s own website is now listing the glowing e-reader at its new $119 price. The reduction is almost assuredly in preparation for Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite, as B&N’s announcement makes a point of bragging about the Simple Touch with Glowlight’s included AC adapter and aversion to built-in ads. See the punchy press release for yourself after the break.

Friends, I now own an iPhone. No, not one of those fancy iPhone 5 devices. I recently picked up a now-discounted iPhone 4S, and it’s the first Apple product I’ve ever owned.
For years, I was one of those types that made a point to not “follow the masses,” a non-conforming conformist, if you will. My last smartphone, which I squeezed every ounce of strength out of, was a Motorola Droid X. Before that, I had a Palm Pre (I loved that phone). …

This week’s Super Joystiq Podcast is back to normal – that’s code for the return of Xav, and a show completely packed with game talk.
A couple of big titles kick off the show. Xav is joined by Ludwig and Mike Schramm with a full 20 minutes of Halo 4 talk. Then it’s on to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which seems to be three games in one. World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria gets some love from Mike, Rayman: Jungle Run gets a shout-out, and Dead …

Did you enjoy the Tokyo Game Show trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance? Well here it is in English so you can actually understand what’s happening now. Well, okay, it’s still a little confusing with how the video is jumping through the plot over different time frames.
Want some actual new info? Well good, because I have some. Producer Yuji Korekado gave more info on one of the characters you meet during a Q&A session at a Konami event last night. Wolf, the robot boss with a chainsaw tail, will join …

Xi3 has been one of the more inventive PC builders in the field, designing its Modular Computers in the belief that small, more upgradable desktops are the way of the future. The company is planning two new systems to further that dream, the X3A and X7A, but it wants our help: it’s running a Kickstarter funding drive until October 28th to assist the development and garner some early adopters. Put down $503 or $603 and you’ll get the entry-level X3A, a dual-core 1.65GHz (likely AMD E-450-based) PC with …

In middle school, I had a giant afro, wore FUBU pants, and listened to 311 all the time. And, I didn’t even smoke weed!
Though I don’t often return to 311 these days, I still have a soft spot for their music, especially the older stuff. Thankfully, 311′s three-song Rock Band debut focuses on their golden years and not the lukewarm, over-produced stuff they’ve put out lately. Transistor, Grassroots, and Music were my favorites by them.
311 Pack 01 contains:
311 – “Down” (311, 1995)
311 – “Beautiful Disaster” (Transistor, 1997)
311 – “Amber” (From …

Rare rests comfortably within Microsoft, cranking out Avatar items and Kinect Sports games. Some who have left the British development studio have taken to Twitter under the moniker Mingy Jongo, and it’s these folks who yearn to get back to the studio’s roots: they want to get to work on a spiritual successor to Banjo-Tooie, the direct sequel to Banjo-Kazooie – a pair of 3D platformers published by Nintendo back in the N64 days.
The account sent out missives declaring this potential game would be a 3D platformer (natch) and …
