Couple divorce over Second Life, rest of world puts collective face in palm screenshot

For something that isn’t strictly a videogame, Second Life is responsible for so much unbelievably stupid crap that it’s difficult to ignore. Take, for example, the case of Amy Taylor, who is divorcing husband David Pollard for having an “affair” via the on the web social network.

Both Amy and David are avid Second Life players, and their online avatars became a couple to match their real world status. That’s until Taylor caught Pollard having virtual sex with a virtual prostitute, virtually. She stayed with David in real life, but the avatars broke off their relationship … are you still following this?

Taylor decided to test her man’s loyalty by hiring a Second Life “private investigator” who lured Pollard into a “honeytrap.” I should remind you all at this point that these people are not 12-years-old. Pollard actually passed the test and did not break any virtual fidelity. Thus satisfied, Amy Taylor married David Pollard in Second Life, once again matching their offline relationship.

Huxley delayed until 2009. In other news, Huxley still exists screenshot

Webzen’s sci-fi MMOFPS Huxley has been in development since the Declaration of Independence was signed. This can be stated without exaggeration. If you cast your mind back — way back — you might recall having once heard of this free-to-play FPS with an MMO flavor. It might take some real mind raking, however.

Now that you remember what Huxley is, you may now be told that the game has been delayed until 2009. Nope, I wasn’t aware it was due to launch in the next two months either, but apparently it was. So basically, the gist of this article is that something you did not know is happening is now not going to happen. Hard. Hitting. Videogame. News. Bitches.

The reason for the delay is apparently due to localization. The game has been in open beta within Korea for a few months, but the US has, so far, seen nothing.

I remember once being really interested in this game. I have nothing further to add to that thought.

Faith goes 2D in Mirror's Edge Flash game screenshot

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Mirror’s Edge hit store shelves today, and chances are you’re playing it right now.

But if you’re at work stuck behind a desk, here’s a neat alternate — a Mirror’s Edge side-scrolling Flash game designed by Brad Borne. The game is currently in beta, but lets you hop, slide, and jump at breakneck speeds throughout the 2D environments. Over the next two or three weeks, Borne will be adding leaderboard, so get to practicing.

Blizzard not milking StarCraft 2, money was 'never part of the conversation' screenshot

According to Blizzard COO Paul Sams, Blizzard isn’t trying to tickle your pocketbooks by splitting StarCraft 2 into three individual games. In a recent interview with Videogamer, Sams defended the decision by noting that money was never a “part of the conversation.” It was done to provide a “better experience” for the consumer.

From the interview:

I guarantee it. I give my word. There was never, ever a conversation where we stated, ‘let’s do this because we’re going to make more money’. I guarantee it. As a matter of fact the sole reason we did it was because we thought it was going to be a superior experience. Anybody that states otherwise is not correct. It is totally not what we did it for.

While I congratulate Sams for being so blunt, I find it particularly hard to believe that the faces around the boardroom didn’t light up when the idea of splitting the title was being thrown around. Regardless, I’ve high hopes and I’m starting to buy into the fact that three StarCraft 2s isn’t a bad thing. What do you guys think?

In the above NeoPets Puzzle Adventure trailer, one can easily catch a glimpse of the beauty and excellence that the title exudes. You’ll notice a brilliantly colored map, superb puzzle gameplay, and wondrous art direction.

If you didn’t know, NeoPets Puzzle Adventure is basically Puzzle Quest only with some new ideas, better visuals, and enhanced features. The gameplay is a hybrid of Reversi and Go where the objective is to match the chips displayed to your specific NeoPet’s color. Outside of the board game is a somewhat interactive world where players can find new items and take on quests for various goodies.

NeoPets is coming very soon (November 25) to the Wii, PC, and Nintendo DS. It’s packing over 150 quests, integration with the official NeoPets website and several multiplayer modes. If you’re skeptical don’t worry, check out Nick’s preview from CAPTIVATE 08 and learn yourself a thing or two.

I get a lot of phone calls, many from phone numbers I don’t recognize. I’m a man of technology, preferring to do my business over email and text messages, so I let many go straight to voice mail.

When a Texas-based call came in today, I hit “ignore” on my cell, instead deciding to fight with the slightly-broken Killzone 2 beta servers. When I checked the voice mail later, I was greeted by a high-pitched shriek in my ear. It was a recorded message of a woman named Ashley, calling on behalf of GameStop to remind me that they’d be holding a Wednesday midnight release for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King.

“We invite you to join us early at 10 p.m. to join in the fun,” she shouted excitedly into my ear, “including dressing up like your favorite character in preparation for the GameStop ultimate costume [unintelligible] national sweepstakes!”

It’s the loudest call I’ve ever received; by the end I’m dizzy and my ears are ringing. Why GameStop would think that anyone, much less a World of Warcraft fanatic, would be OK with having someone call them up to shout promotional details in their ear is beyond me. Haven’t they heard of subtlety? Couldn’t they’ve gotten a WOW voice actor to deliver these details in a calm, even tone? Jesus.

Far Cry 2 sells a million in three weeks, proceeds not going to malaria research screenshot

Today, Ubisoft announced Far Cry 2 has sold one million units in a mere three weeks since hitting retailers worldwide. This marks a monumental achievement and it deserves to be celebrated with candy, cake, confetti, and prostitutes. I wasn’t able to ask Ubisoft Montreal (the game’s developer) about a celebration or prostitutes, but it doesn’t stop me from saying it needs to happen.

In terms of Far Cry 2 deserving the landmark sales, I believe it does. When I played it for review I found it to be a great mix of action and exploration. It also has quite the multiplayer component, which is being overlooked right now because of other behemoth titles like Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet sporting more massive or more interactive experiences.

What do you guys think about FarCry 2? If you didn’t get it quite yet, do you think you’ll at some point or will the rest of the holiday releases dominate your time and money?
