When I saw the debut teaser for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 Fusion during E3, I got pretty excited. The teaser said that we’d be able to fuse Marvel’s greatest heroes powers together. As it turns out, Activision meant something totally different from what people were probably anticipating.
All of the attacks shown in the trailer have nothing to do with fusion. What’s really happening is “team attack”. THE HULK PICKING UP WOLVERINE, SPINNING HIM AROUND AND THEN THROWING HIM IS NOT FUSION. Now the Hulk receiving Wolverine’s claws (albeit pretty pointless) would be fusion.

Even the blurriness and brevity of this video has tiny impact on awesomeness of what transpires onscreen. Though only 10 seconds in length, we finally get a peek at what Criterion was talking about when they mentioned adding not only bikes, but planes in a future update to Burnout Paradise.
The jury is still out on how well the whole biplane thing is going to fit into the overall scheme of the game (Imagine the joy of swooping down on automobiles speeding towards the finish, and witnessing the spectacular crashes that result from it!), but it’s hard to imagine the Burnout team cranking out anything less than stellar downloadable content. These guys sure know how to rock out a racing game. At this rate, we might never need to buy another one again!

I’m down with people reporting on inside information, but leading me on is another thing. According to PlayStationLifestyle, Sony will announce an awesome, jaw-dropping, extraordinary, and very exclusive title for the PS3 on August 3. Past that, we only have the clues that that game is not a RPG, FPS, or a Twisted Metal title. Also, the game is slated for late 2009. That certainly narrows down the list, doesn’t it?
So, while we’re waiting with bated breath for this alleged announcement, let’s speculate a tiny bit. Personally, I’m hoping that this won’t be another God of War III thing, where we just stare at the protagonist’s sweaty CG brow and left to wonder if anything will really be new or exciting. I would love to see some crazy LocoRoco console version, or even a sequel to Primal. Perhaps this time we have the ability to have less chick and more demons.
Really though, if you stare at a list of Sony properties, the biggest titles that have been curiously missing of late are the ones done by Team Ico. I could easily see a new Shadows of the Colossus coming to the console. It’s known that the developer has been working on a PS3 title for some time now, so it’s hard to believe that this announcement wasn’t going to come at some point. If the information is legit, what games are you guys thinking?

During E3 last week, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Universal Photos quietly announced a videogame based off of the film, Wanted. You know, the film starring James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, and Angelina Jolie … that was based on a comic book miniseries. Follow along: a game based on a motion picture that was based on a comic book.

CNBC reporter Jane Wells wrote a piece yesterday titled “The Ultimate Proof Sony Is Winning”. Wow, that’s a pretty bold claim to declare someone is winning the console war this early on. So how does Jane know that Sony is winning? Has she been doing a ton of research? Has she been looking into the mind of Michael Patcher? Maybe she has a magical crystal ball! Actually, it’s none of that. She’s come to the conclusion that Sony is winning based on what her 16-year-old son has told her.

If you happened to be hiding under a rock during E3, or just entirely too disappointed by Nintendo’s conference, you might have missed Sony’s unveiling of MAG. The game is being proposed as a multiplayer juggernaut, with the possibility of 256 players simultaneously taking the battlefield. Naturally, after hearing about its scope, you begin to question its complexity or the amount of compromises that Zipper will have to maintain to make this game possible. Rade Stojsavljevic, Senior Producer at Zipper, recently implied on PlayStationBlog that MAG would not have to compromise its action or gameplay elements:
Though it’s early to talk in depth about MAG, we have the ability to definitely quell some fears we’ve already heard from you about how MAG will need to compromise on gameplay to support its size. Well, it may be massive but it is an action shooter at its core. You can run around and shoot enemies, throw grenades, and drive automobiles just like any other shooter except with MAG you’ll do it with up to 256 players.
Rade then goes on to say that Zipper’s work with SOCOM has given them the knowledge to make MAG a working title. Also, Rade totally let it slip during the interview. We now know that you can shoot people and throw grenades in MAG. We would even be willing to recommend that you can throw grenades at people, or even shoot a person while another person throws a grenade at him.

One of the odder points of Sony’s press conference at E3 this year was the unveiling of Polyphany Digital’s newest enhancement for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, called GT TV. Apparently, GT TV and the additional content planned for Prologue has taken the front seat, while GT 5 is almost totally off the radar. In an IGN E3 interview with Polyphony executive Kazunori Yamauchi, it was revealed that we might not see Gran Turismo 5 until 2010.
There’s no plans in the works for GT5 yet - that might be 2009, or it might be 2010… But we’re totally focused on getting the updates through for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and that’s all we’re focused on.
Maybe I’m still a tiny too old school, but I find a game built upon the premise of buying additional content to be a bit disconcerting. I suppose I was under the impression that Prologue was a short-term placeholder for the real game. To know that I could be asked to keep supporting Prologue via content for the next year or two isn’t a good thing to be asking, even if its just videos and better physics. How do you guys feel about waiting for the “real” title?

A fantasy world without an overly huge, stereotypical demon villain would be far too nice, pretty, and sweet. According to Overlord: Raising Hell, fantasy realms need more evil. In fact, the want is so great that the game flips the typical demon antagonist into the main protagonist. The playful mix of satire, commentary, and terrible accents resulting from the flip is enough to delight even the most pragmatic gamer.
Yet, peel back the skin of the nefarious protagonist and charming little minions and what you’re left holding is a blended bag. While Overlord is a decent romp through a series of missions aimed to make you laugh, think and fill the world with evil, there are also some particularly glaring flaws. These flaws on the PS3 platform are real deal breakers, and unfortunate considering the promise of Overlord: Raising Hell.
Hit the break for the full review.

Typically, the only rewards that a player reaps when creating unique game content is the enjoyment that others have with it. According to comments given to PS3Fanboy by SCEE president David Reeves, this is about to change with the coming of LittleBigPlanet. Reeves envisions that users will be able to charge for their content created in LBP.
What we’re trying to do with LittleBigPlanet is almost iTunes meets eBay in the sense that once an individual or a developer has qualified by producing certain levels or certain add-ons, they’ll then be able in the future to exchange these and make money out of them Eventually, it’s feasible that you might well see the first LittleBigPlanet millionaire!
Reeves then goes on to stipulate that content creators may be able to set their own price for content. This sounds great in theory, but I wonder how far the rabbit hole will go. Will any of you be willing to pay for user-created LittleBigPlanet content?
