Hitman series developer IO Interactive has cut its staff by almost 50 percent after a recent round of layoffs, the studio announced in a statement released to Develop.
Speaking to Develop, a spokesperson for IO Interactive confirmed that the company has canceled many of its current projects in order to focus its efforts on a new Hitman game, which is currently in pre-production.
Previously, the Square Enix-owned studio had developed games such as Mini Ninjas and Kane & Lynch. Its most recent release, Hitman: Absolution, launched last year for the Xbox 360, …

Someone call MIT’s researchers and tell them their terrifying cheetah robot has a long-lost teensy sibling in Switzerland. Developed in the laboratories of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, the “cheetah-cub robot” is a four-legged metallic critter modeled after a house cat. The scientists focused on designing legs that can move like our feline friends’, paying particular attention to their stability while moving on uneven surfaces. While it has a long way to go before it becomes a graceful daredevil, it’s a fast little bugger that can run seven times …

Nokia Lumia 928 for Verizon hands-on
Nokia Lumia 920 review

It’s been just half a year since Nokia revealed its first Windows Phone 8 device, and we’ve already got another flagship to review. The Lumia 925 marks a departure in design for Nokia — it looks nothing like its predecessors, barring an expanse of screen and some capacitive Windows buttons. This time around, the phone is housed in an aluminum frame, making it Nokia’s first metal smartphone since those heady Symbian days. This, alongside some hardware repositioning and …

Music licensors didn’t waste any time in characterizing Pandora’s acquisition of an FM radio station as an underhanded attempt to cheat performers out of royalties, but the rhetoric has now hit the courtroom, as Broadcast Music Inc. has filed a lawsuit against the streaming service in the New York federal system. Key to the action — which casts Pandora’s move as “an open and brazen effort to artificially drive down its license fees” — BMI asks for a blanket determination of licensing rates for all music broadcast by Pandora. According …

A teardown of the new Xbox 360 announced at Microsoft’s E3 press conference by iFixit showed some surprising non-changes to the redesigned system. Namely, the console still uses the storage, cooling fan and processing power from the current version of the system first announced in June 2010.
Among the changes made to the system (referred to as the Xbox 360 E), iFixit noticed that Microsoft updated the RF module and that “the absence of the power button backlight found in the Xbox 360 S is easily noticed.” The redesigned console is …

We already knew Samsung’s 8-inch Galaxy Note would be coming to the United States, but only as a WiFi variant. Fortunately for US hopefuls wanting an actual data connection outside the safety of the nearest wireless hotspot, AT&T will be bringing an LTE-enabled version to its network in the coming weeks — though this appears to be an exclusive to the operator. We’re still waiting to hear about pricing and other specifics, but anyone interested in grabbing this particular tablet should be taking a close look at their bank accounts …

While the US press release for the PlayStation 4 mentioned details about games, used games and pricing, it did not confirm all of the specs for the console. In Japan however, a more detailed press release clears up a few things. Sony’s console is packing a 500GB hard drive, and it will not include the camera module, which is a $59 (US) add-on for the $399 box. A Best Buy listing confirms the PlayStation 4 Eye is an add-on, and that an extra controller will also go for $59.
