Are you ready, Steef? Just Add Water is working on a high-definition remake of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. The Gravity Crash developer announced the project earlier today, highlighting it as the first in a “long and fruitful relationship” with the original game’s developer, Oddworld Inhabitants. “Having a chance to update the great title and release it on PS3 is just a brilliant opportunity, not least for us, but for the fans too,” added Just Add Water MD Stewart Gilray.

Well, it looks like you still won’t be able to actually make calls over WiFi, but Verizon Android users can now at least keep their WiFi connection active while using Skype Mobile — something that was curiously not possible before. That’s just one of the improvements in the latest version of the app (also updated for BlackBerry), which also includes features like incoming caller ID, support for copy and paste and emoticons in IM conversations, and the ability to automatically set your location as your mood message.

Remember when you were 5, and you went to McDonald’s one day with your parents and they got you the Happy Meal with the windup Luigi toy in it? Remember how ecstatic you were that you had a real version of Mario’s bro in a plastic bag along with your cheeseburger and fries, and remember how you went home and played with it all day until it stopped winding and you completely forgot about it until you had to clean out your desk drawer for college?
Well, 11-year-old Oscar Bown has …

Netbook makers like Lenovo, Gigabyte and ASUS have been quietly releasing new systems with Intel’s new mobile, dual-core N550 processor, but HP’s not keeping its use of the fresh chip in 10-inch netbooks a secret… anymore. Just as we’ve previously heard, the professional-aimed $399 Mini 5103 will be getting a dual-core 1.5GHz processor option, which HP tells us can improve benchmark performance by up to 20 percent without a significant impact on battery life. It’s also been updated with a new “espresso” color and will have HP’s Day Starter instant-on …

Well, this is sad and unexpected: Microsoft’s Major Nelson just announced that Xbox Live Gold will be getting more expensive in the US, UK, Canada, and Mexico starting November 1. A single month will go from $7.99 to $9.99, three months will go from $19.99 to $24.99, and the yearly sub will now be $59.99, up from $49.99. Yes, it’s super lame, but to make up for it Microsoft’s running a quickie “lock in” promo for a discounted $40 one-year Gold sub starting November 1 — a nice deal if …

There is a huge untapped market for console manufacturers: China. While Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo struggle to deal with Chinese government regulations, one company is seeking to create a new console specifically for the territory. Lenovo is prepping the “eBox,” a new console that has Kinect-esque functionality in mind. With 120 million families as “potential buyers” in China, it’s certainly a lucrative opportunity for the company to pursue.
A team of 40 Lenovo engineers are now working at a spin-off firm called Beijing eedoo Technology, and although the company has been …

Amazon’s third major iteration of its flagship reading device, the Kindle, comes out of the gate looking strong: the new graphite finish (just like its big brother, the Kindle DX) with a slimmer, lighter form factor, plus a bumped refresh rate for its E Ink screen. Best of all, the WiFi only and 3G readers have newly lowered prices (though they’re still not exactly bargain basement level). We’ve spent the past few days putting the tinier Kindle through the paces to see just how much Amazon’s improved it. Though the …

Mac coming to Steam was a huge deal when first announced and, since launching in May, Mac users have become five percent of Steam’s total audience. That’s damn significant — back in January, Steam reported it had 25 million users, so you do the math.
That five percent figure comes via the latest Steam survey, which analyzed the digital distribution platform in July 2010. It’s down from 8 percent in June, but that spike was likely thanks in large part to free Portal. Interestingly, almost 47 percent of the folks …
