Want to be part of the biggest Fanboy coalition in the Joystiq network? Good, because we’re looking for some fresh faces. PS Fanboy is finally recruiting, and we’d like to see you join us. We’re looking for PlayStation enthusiasts — those that actually play games on the PSP (they really exist, trust us). We’re looking for people with Blu-ray libraries, an appreciation of all things PixelJunk, and/or a pair of Metal Gear underpants. Most importantly, we’re looking for capable writers that are interested in getting paid to write about games.

Please read all instructions before submitting your application. Incomplete applications will only be read after the release of Final Fantasy XIV — because if you can’t follow instructions now, there’s nothing to make us think you’ll be able to follow instructions if we contract you to write for us.

First off, what we’re looking for:

  • Bloggers willing to commit to writing at least 50 posts a month. (Not sure how much work 50 posts a month is? Take a look at an average-length post on this site. Now multiply that by 50.)
  • Columnists willing to write weekly columns between 500 and 1000 words.

To download or to get the Blu-ray version: that’s the question.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue’s release is coming rather soon for both our American and European readers. However, which version should one pick up? For those seeking instant gratification off the hard drive, perhaps the download is the way to go. But take note: the download weighs a hefty 1.9GB.

Some might be wondering: how come the game is so small when a Blu-ray disc can hold so much more? By getting rid of all the videos. Eurogamer explains: “Prologue reduces its footprint is by leaving cinematics on the server until you choose to download them from GT TV. You can choose to download the opening motion picture at any time, and when you finish Event series you’re told that you can now download the end motion picture from the in-game high-definition TV download page.”

Personally, this blogger is much more interested in picking up the retail copy. Who wants to wait to download over and over again?

The game of golf is all about precision, patience, and looking swank in plaid. Unquestionably, this checklist of golfing requirements was on the developers’ minds when they started designing Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds. If we take those three terms and translate them into the context of videogames, it would sound something like this: precision comes in the form of an intuitive yet complex gameplay; patience describes the progressive difficulty and the game’s longevity; and lastly, plaid stands for a stylish design. Well okay, plaid isn’t that stylish, but you get the point right?

As Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds introduces a new style of play, it still is more or less true to its roots. We’ve enjoyed the game immensely and we’ve got to clap our hands together for Clap Hanz. Nice shotto!

Looking back on this week in news, the Poll Police found an overwhelming number of people bringing their cards to the table and leaving their two cents when Microsoft spouted off about the irrelevance of Blu-ray and the life Digital Downloads would bring to the world. As was stated in the post, digital downloading is nice, but disc-based mediums like Blu-ray deliver full 1080p, uncompressed audio glory. As an officer of polling justice, the menus and extra features located on a single disc are nice (and why buying a disc is sometimes more exhilarating than downloading a series on the internet through less sincere methords). What do you, the people of PS3 Fanboy Town, think of this “future”?

Digital Downloading: coming sooner, or later?
As MS said, 12-18 months sounds right.
I don’t think we’ll see it for 2 years.
3 or more years, probably.
When MS unveils a new console, DD will be key.
It’s never going to match discs, so it won’t take off.
I don’t really care. I can get stuff free on the internet anytime.

We’ll leave our thoughts in the air until next week, since we do our share of downloading and purchasing. Time will tell what the future holds, as that’s just something we can’t avoid, but being able to predict what it will tell us is a fun diversion from the snail’s pace that truth seems to approach at. What about last week’s poll? Take the jump and find out.

If you’ve been itching for new maps to annihilate your friends on with the Orange Box’s multiplayer title, Team Fortress 2, you know it’s just a matter of time until you get your wish. What you don’t know is how much it’ll cost you. Neither does Valve. Kotaku contacted Valve’s VP of Marketing, Doug Lombardi, to see if their wish for free downloadable content was up to them, a result of Electronic Arts meddling, or something else. He said “The platform owner holds the final call.” Which means it’s up to Sony and Microsoft whether or not to offer the content for free. Anyone care to venture a guess?

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 makes its worldwide debut this week. Wait, really? That one snuck up on us, especially considering it’s a sequel to a big hit of 2007. We would’ve thought there’d have been a tiny more coverage. Does that bode well for the title? No idea. This isn’t a review! Here’s the full release list:

US Games

EU Games

Asian Games

Not a bad week all around, really. Europe has relatively few releases, compared to the other two territories. Fear not, however, this will be rectified next week when Europeans get a Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and Everybody’s Golf World Tour double whammy. Condemned 2 finally gets its release this week in the US after its short delay. That’s why you’re seeing it hit the list for the second week in a row. We’re not insane, honest.

Your PS3 is region free, so go ahead and import anything in the above list. Release dates are constantly in a say of flux, so be sure to check with your local store before heading out.

It has been confirmed to us that the wait is finally over. Europeans can get their hands on PAIN, as well as a few add on packs (probably the character packs already released in the US) this coming Thursday. With last week being described as “the last bad update for a while”, things should pick up from now on. Yeah. How many times have we heard that one?

The localisation issues that cause these ridiculous delays (it’s been four months since PAIN was released in America) are due to be addressed at some point in the near future. At the danger of sounding like a broken record, something needs to be done, so we’ll look forward to these discussions with cautious anticipation.

So last week had a pretty good line-up with lots of different movies to select from. This week, the choices are trim. There’s only two movies this time around: I’m Legend and Disney’s Enchanted.

Both flicks are pretty good — I am Legend especially. If you had picked up Independence Day and/or I, Robot from last week, then you could begin a Will Smith marathon. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air next please!

Does the PSN really need a commercial? Probably not. But it appears that someone has tried. A new (potentially un-used) commercial by Terry Hall and The Love Commercial Production Company highlights the community features of the Network in a mellow, artistic spot.

The PS3 Fanboy GOTY, Call of Duty 4, is set to expand its multiplayer offerings later this year through its first DLC. Chinatown is one of the first revealed maps, and GT Television is proud to present an exclusive first look at the new map. CoD2 vets may recognize the map, but expect it to have a totally different feel in CoD4. It’s still one of our most played online games, so we’re glad to see how well the new content is shaping up.

[Thanks, DanyDanman!]
