58 has been done before. 60 is too small of a jump. 70 is getting closer, but still isn’t awe inspiring. Now 80, 80 is a number that can be celebrated and a number that accurately describes the number of master tracks that will be included with Rock Band 2.
According to an AP interview with the CEO of Harmonix Alex Rigopulos, Rock Band 2 “will feature a playlist of over 80 songs — all master recordings” including more ” female-fronted bands and artists who have never contributed tunes to a music game.” Rigopulos also confirmed that in a few weeks during E3, they plan on announcing the entire setlist for the game of which a few tracks have already been leaked. It’s also interesting to hear that Harmonix plans on “broadening the musical genres of available downloadable content” for Rock Band, with MTV president Van Toffler mentioning that they plan to take the Rock Band platform and open it up to “the genres of music to country, hip-hop and R&B”. Not so “Rock” Band, but musically diverse … interesting.

Today, Rockstar Games announced that the release date for the latest addition in the Midnight Club franchise, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, has been pushed back from its initial September release. But don’t fret, it isn’t as bad as you think.
The new release date for Midnight Club: LA is October 7th for those in North American and October 10th for gamers in Europe. Not that big of a delay, but a delay no matter. Really, what’s another month of waiting? Be patient children.

Despite the fact that the newest of the Naruto games won’t be coming to the 360, that doesn’t mean that the franchise has left the console forever. According to several newly posted pages on a few different websites, we’ve got word of a new Naruto 360 project, apparently entitled Broken Bond. Supposedly set for release in November, Broken Bond deals with the rivalry between Naruto and the character Sasuke and is thought to be a continuation of the earlier 360 game Rise of the Ninja.

Excitement for Halo Wars has been palpable of late, what with a recent GamePro cover story and Ensemble finally allowing a few details to hit the tubes (even from the official Halo Wars website, no less). It wasn’t long ago that Ensemble made it known that they would “hopefully” have a playable build at E3. Considering no one outside of Ensemble and a few lucky journalists have laid their hands on the game, it was pretty exciting news. Prepare to be even more excited, as the “hopefully” part of the equation seems to have shifted to definitely. According to Ensemble’s Bruce Shelley, as noted on his blog, there will be “several demo stations set up and a massive number of media representatives will be getting a chance to play.” Smiley face to that.
There are other details about the game in the blog but, frankly, we sort of blanked out after the playable bit. There was this: “This isn’t a strategy game where you don’t interact with your opponent for the first 15 to 25 minutes. Many games are over by that point.” E3 can’t get here fast enough.

This generation of games has seen the average price for a title rise to $59.99, so when a game looks to possibly be released at a price point lower than that, we take notice. Over at Gamestop’s website,
Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise and
Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts are both currently listed at the price of $39.99. Now while this could just be a simple error (Amazon has
them both at $59.99), we’d like to hope that there’s more going on …
The rest of this is only speculation, but there are a few connections between the two games. They’re both from Rare and so they’re both Microsoft first party games. Now it could just be wishful thinking, but we’d like to hope that Microsoft might be willing taking a bit of a profit hit on these two to get them to be must-buys for a more massive audience of gamers (read: kids).

One of the few Square Enix RPGs that’ll see release on 360 in the future (Septmeber 2 to be exact), the strangely titled Infinite Undiscovery has just recently had its box art released, and surprise, it’s not covered in large-eyed anime style characters. To go with the reveal of the artsy box cover, we’ve got a collection of some rather good looking screens for the game. The shots show case everything from the varied environments to some of the battle system, the UI and characters.

Thank you sharp-eyed forum posters, you may have spotted something that could mean Ninja Gaiden 2 will actually get some content worth paying for. Mentioned over at NeoGAF, and spotted somewhere on the XBL Marketplace, was the mention that NG2 will get a downloadable mission mode on the 25th of this month.
The mission mode that was in the original iteration was incredibly popular among the franchise faithful for its focus on the game’s main strength: pure combat. There are of course no details on how the implementation will work, but as long as it isn’t just more of the Tests of Valor (we’re really exhausted of that environment) we’ll be ready to shell out the points if this hits on the 25th. Anyone else out there spot this on the Marketplace yet?

Fanboys who have their gaming roots firmly planted in the UK and are interested in Soulcalibur IV, (no not that Soulcalibur) we recommend getting your pre-order on. Ubisoft just announced that customers who pre-order at UK retailer Play.com will receive a free Soulcalibur IV faceplate and those who choose to preorder at GAME stores will be getting an exclusive metal case packed with a bonus DVD and art book. Make your pre-order decision wisely, though no matter what you decide on, pre-order goodies have you will.

Last week, we told you about Todd McFarlane’s interesting decision to gobble up the Guitar Hero license and the subsequent creation of a set of four Guitar Hero figures that are set to release this Fall. No, we still haven’t fully accepted the figures seeing that we don’t have any real attachment to the characters of Guitar Hero franchise, but we do now know exactly what each figure will look like. Viewable in the gallery below are the final sculpts of the Johnny Napalm, Lars Umlaut, Axel Steel and God of Rock figures. Not horrible (except for the God of Rock’s odd looking shoulder), but we’ll stick with our Halo and Gears figures.

Will the back and forth never end? It’s multiplatform, then it’s not, and now it looks like it is again. With no official word from Capcom, this new Mega Man 9 news of course has only as much credence as the first OFLC rating. But we really don’t think that government game rating boards are in the habit of making up games or confusing which controller and console they’re using, regardless of what country the ratings board is from. Though there is just one tiny thing that makes this whole situation more of an oddity. Our multilingual readers will already have noticed, but the USK strangely lists it from the genre of, ahem, “Role playing.” Weird.
