Nexuiz coming to XBLA and PSN in 2010

Remember those old-timey fragfest FPSes? The ones that got your mouse-palm all sweaty as you reduced opponents to giblets and sprays of viscera on poorly textured arena walls? A new (old) one is set to hit Xbox LIVE Arcade and PSN. It’s called Nexuiz, and if you’re familiar with the PC scene, you may have checked it out.
Developed now by IllFonic, Nexuiz is the kind of teeth-rattling FPS experience that isn’t too common on the downloadable platforms. It was originally an Alientrap Software open-source joint, but now IllFonic is taking …

Insane Asylum Inspires Lovecraft and Batman Then Becomes A Residential Community

This is Danvers State Insane Asylum, the inspiration for H.P. Lovecraft’s Arkham Sanitarium “which in turn was the inspiration for Arkham Asylum in the Batman comic book series.” Today, the building is part of Avalon Danvers, a pleasant residential community.
Right now, those buildings stand surrounded by a swimming pool, fitness center, basketball court, and whatever other amenities an apartment community might have:

Still spooky looking, no? Doesn’t seem surprising that there’s been all sorts of supernatural activity reported by residents and visitors.
I just hope they hand out free Proton Packs with …

Run for the 8-bit border: Taco Bell offering Atari classics

Thanks to Destructoid community member LostCrichton, I know what I’m eating for lunch today — Taco Bell.
The fast food chain is apparently running a promotion with Atari, giving out PC/Mac versions of its classics with every kids meal. Four games (ports of the arcade titles) are available: Centipede, Lunar Landing, Super Breakout, and Asteroids.
Not in the market for a beefy five-layer burrito? You can purchase the games separately for about $1.50 a piece, so you can collect them all for around the price of a value meal. Hey, more tacos …

OK Go's (Embeddable!) Music Video For 'This Too Shall Pass' Features Insane Rube

Those crazy cats at OK Go are tugging at our heartstrings yet again, with the release of a brand new video for the song This Too Shall Pass. It takes the Rube Goldberg machine concept to another level completely.
Not familiar with the Rube Goldberg machine? Oh, but you are—it’s that Mousetrap-like series of chain reactions that come from just one small action. In this case, driving a toy truck into a line of dominos. But, but! Did I mention the video is embeddable? Looks like lead singer Damian Kulash’s open …

Japan lifetime sales: 10m Wii, 5m PS3, 1.2m Xbox 360

The headline basically says it all. Enterbrain has released the Japanese lifetime sales numbers for the current generation of home consoles,
and here’s how it all plays out as of February 28th:

Wii: 10,007,736
PS3: 4,766,408
Xbox 360: 1,235,049

The Wii took 170 weeks to break the 10 million mark, which was 39 weeks longer than the PS2 took back in the day. They’re not “winning” by any means, but it’s nice to see that the Xbox 360 passed the 1 million mark. Microsoft made a mark with their system, perhaps gaining a foothold for …

PSA: You can probably turn on your fat PS3 now

User reports, including my own, are indicating that the nasty clock bug that turned fat PS3s into glossy paperweights has been addressed. Or, at least, the bug has fixed itself. Like other Destructoid readers, I have been able to play my games, including downloadable ones like Flower and Trine, without receiving an error message. So, yeah, turn on your PS3. Celebrate by pouring orange juice in Heavy Rain or something.
Hopefully, within the next few hours, we’ll get the official skinny on what exactly caused this crap to happen. My guess …

Sony: Expect a fix for PSN within 24 hours

Either you’ve experienced the PlayStation Network errors for yourself, or you’ve heard about them by now. It’s the talk of the Internet, and with a little luck, it won’t be for much longer.
Sony has an update on the situation, which basically offers two pieces of info: a fix is expected to hit within 24 hours, and anyone with a non-Slim console should leave their system turned off until then. Here’s a snippet from the PlayStation.Blog post:
“We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if …
